Rice Production with Brazilian Aid

Cuba: Rice Production with Brazilian Aid

Brazil to help to increase Cuban rice production and in other fields

One of the most remarkable outcomes of the signing in Havana of a
cooperation agreement between Brazil and Cuba is the contribution by the
South American nation to increase rice production, which includes the
transfer of technology and knowledge for five years.

Telce Gonzalez, director of the Institute of Research in Grains
(IIGranos), and Claudio Fernando Brayer, president of the Institute of
Rice of Rio Grande (IRGA), signed the document in the presence of Jose
Felicio, Brazilian ambassador to Havana.

Felicio stated that this exchange is part of the efforts made by the
Caribbean island to reduce food imports, given the high price of food on
the international market.

The project is part of actions carried out to strengthen commercial
relations, which also includes the spheres of biotechnology,
transportation and health, among others.

Gonzalez pointed out that aspects related to seeds, post-harvest and the
optimum use of fertilizers will be prioritized to be implemented on the
island, while the South Americans will receive advisory in the use of
bio-products.

Starting from Monday, the Brazilian delegation has visited scientific
institutions and producers in Matanzas province. / Source: ACN.
